Mountainwalking

Okay: I'll continue my Yu Shan journey here. In this post I'll try to squeeze in people still. Later on I'm thinking of making a post for those who aren't as interested in exchange students and just want to look a beautifull mountain ranges.

 IMG_4533

I'm starting out with some mexicans. Took another picture with both of them visible, but that one was at a bad angle so no light on them. Look at all that fog. It's beautiful isn't it?

 IMG_4537

It's not everyday you see trees like this in Taiwan. I have a suspicion you could say the same about Mexico.

 IMG_4541

Jéssica Escobar, Brazil. It's a tuff climb.

 IMG_4543

You can see lots of old and broken trees around here. Typhoons and forest fires are tuff on the things. And what a cute hat!

 IMG_4553

Phew. I must say, I was rather tired too at that time. Catherine Evelyn Jimmerson likes to lie down when she's tired. I can prove she does it often.

 IMG_4558

We went to see this weather station up the mountains.

 IMG_4570

Does anyone have the slightest idea what these measuring instruments are for?

 IMG_4573

Kiara and the UFOs.

 IMG_4576

Exchange students on a weather station platform.

 IMG_4584

Later, we went to see an observatory. Up there they had a bunch of defensive machines to knock down eventual burglars.

 IMG_4591

Although there was actually a sign outside saying visitors not allowed, we went in to see the telescope anyway.

 IMG_4592

These slightly amusing markings seemed more to have a purpose than they seemed to be used for the same.

 IMG_4594

I don't understand these primitive beings. With such a complex and awe-expiring contraption of gizmo's and wires in front of them: All they can think of is resting? They certainly don't look like Pakleds, but there's no big difference I'd say.

 IMG_4597

Must be a Brazilian spy.

 IMG_4602

Do not open it forever!

 IMG_4605

This little camera streams what it sees to the internet so people can see what's up in the observatory. By the way: This is the observatory from which the Comet Lulin was first discovered. Observatory's located on Lulin mountain.

 IMG_4623

Crazy people.

 IMG_4626

I love this picture.

 IMG_4627

And just so that you guys can be certain I actually went there: Here's a picture of me in front of the telescope.

 IMG_4653

EXIF says this picture was taken 6.32 pm. It was like this half of the time, always changing. One moment it was clear, and 20 minutes later, the mountains would be immersed in a sea of clouds.

 IMG_4656

I hate fake fireplaces. They're just sitting around there, mocking you. Reminding you of how cold the room is and yet refusing to help you fix it.

 IMG_4660

Luke West, America. Likes Pokémon very much. Apart from Chinese, he's also trying to learn Swedish. And probably a bunch of other languages. He can already speak some Japanese and German as far as I know. A guy who loves languages.

 IMG_4661

When Chris sings, everyone falls asleep.

 IMG_4667

... Except one person - which is not himself.

 IMG_4668

Actually, the songs available sucked really hard. There were not a single decent english song, so everyone had to sing in Chinese.

 IMG_4672

Later, people are enjoying night-time meals and playing poker.

 IMG_4686

Luke just lost.

And then we went to bed. I lay awake all night, unable to sleep due to the cold. No blanket for me there and not much isolation either. I'm surprised I didn't get sick in any way.
Later I took lots of pictures of the mountains but I'll reserve them for a later post.

 IMG_4744

Here's a strange, French girl called Marguerite and slightly less french and slightly less strange Chris Boucher.

 IMG_4769

And some group picture at the stone that says we're 2881 meters into the air.

 IMG_4770

Kung Fu massage.

 IMG_4776

This flower is poisonous and it's not allowed to touch it. I was told people use it to induce similar effects as Marijuana, but that it could also kill you - which Marijuana can't. Free cannabis!
Anyway, it has some sort of psychedelic effect. Probably not the exact same I bet.

 IMG_4782

What a view. I'll let you have a look at it soon.

 IMG_4802

Why exactly this picture turned out like this, I don't know.

 IMG_4805

And... Uhm...

Poor Dominic.

 IMG_4824

Hi there, Songyee. By the time this picture was taking, we're heading towards home again. This was at one of the stops on the way down from the mountain.

 IMG_4829

Can't take any credit for this great picture. Standing in the background.
It was made by Maho Okano, who's born in the same country as the camera.

 IMG_4833

Actually we were supposed to see some museum but the rotary guys decided we didn't have time, so instead everyone just ate some ice cream during a break.

 IMG_4837

They had these cool figures there, though. And lots of cute little similar mascots on posters and pictures all around.

 IMG_4838

Tired much?

 IMG_4842

Oh well. Bus was too bumpy and places too dark to take any decent pictures for the rest of the trip, so here's a strange scene I managed to catch while bus was holding still.
Hope you enjoyed. I saved the best for last, though. So don't miss the last post about Jade Mountain!
