Mid Autumn Festival

by sander4. October 2009 17:10

That's on october the third on the western worlds calendar, which means yesterday.

In the Mid Autumn Festival, a lot of Taiwanese will get together with their relatives and perhaps friends to do some clutural activities together, like having a taiwanese barbeque, eating mooncake or sending up a sky-lantern. Also, there's sometimes some festives around, like this parade in Shi Fen:

But this was not actually what we came for. A quite famous tradition is sending up the sky lanterns, and that's exactly why we went to Shi Fen, but first:

Mooncake!

And also, visited a really gorgeous place. Some time, hopefully soon, I will dump a pretty nice amount of pictures like this, some of which can probably even be used for wallpapers. Nice eh?

So here it is finally. You actually just have a few pieces of sliced paper, some glue, a frame for putting the oiled paper in the middle of the lantern such that you can light it up and let it go to the sky like a baloon.

As you can see, people will write a bunch of chinese stuff on it and even draw pictures. You can write anything you feel like: It can be a wish for something to happen, or you can just tell how good you feel about your life as it is right now.

That's the paper you light on fire to make the sky lanterns go up into the sky when everyone's ready.

Everyone is getting ready...

And here we go! :D

Just before we sent the lanterns away, we found out there was a hole in our, so Joni hurried up to get more glue to fix it with. However, when she came back, we couldn't find the hole anymore. So we sent off our a few seconds after the others. This mean our is the last one that can be seen out to the right.

Afterwards I took this picture, and that's it. Goodnight everyone! Sleep well.
